We collect only the personal information reasonably necessary to provide sailing instruction, manage bookings, support safety, meet certification requirements, communicate with students, and operate the business.
This may include:
name, email address, phone number, and mailing address;
emergency contact details;
course interest, booking details, dates, goals, and experience level;
relevant medical, allergy, mobility, dietary, or safety information that you choose or are required to provide for training safety;
waiver, registration, declaration, attendance, and training records;
certification-related information, including prerequisites, assessment records, course outcomes, and certificate processing details;
payment and invoice information;
communication records, including emails, form submissions, and messages;
photos or videos where taken for coaching, debriefing, safety, records, or marketing with appropriate consent;

We do not intentionally collect more information than we need for the purpose identified.

assessing which course or training option may be suitable;

By contacting YMC, submitting an enquiry form, making a booking, paying a deposit, signing a waiver, attending a course, or otherwise providing personal information, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information for the purposes described in this policy.
Some personal information is required in order for us to provide training safely and properly. For example, we may need your contact details, emergency contact information, waiver, relevant safety or medical information, and course records.
You may withdraw consent to certain uses of your personal information, subject to legal, safety, contractual, insurance, certification, or recordkeeping requirements. If you withdraw consent for information that is necessary to provide a service, we may not be able to provide that service.
Sailing takes place in a marine environment where emergency response may not be immediate. For safety reasons, we may ask you to disclose relevant medical conditions, injuries, medications, allergies, mobility limitations, dietary requirements, swimming limitations, anxiety, or other information that could affect your participation, emergency response, or the safety of others.
We use this information only for course suitability, safety planning, emergency response, food planning where relevant, and related recordkeeping.
We may share necessary medical or emergency information with instructors, vessel crew, emergency services, medical providers, or other responsible persons where reasonably necessary for safety or emergency response.
We do not sell or rent personal information.
We may share personal information where reasonably necessary with:
instructors, assistants, vessel owners, or contractors involved in course delivery;
emergency services, medical providers, Coast Guard, marina staff, or responsible persons ashore where required for safety or emergency response;
IYT or another certification body where required for registration, assessment, certification, quality control, or audit;
insurers, brokers, legal advisors, accountants, bookkeepers, or professional advisors;
payment processors, website hosting providers, form providers, email providers, cloud storage providers, and other service providers who support our business operations;
Transport Canada, law enforcement, regulators, courts, or other authorities where required or permitted by law;
another party in connection with a business sale, restructuring, or transfer, subject to appropriate protections.
Where we use third-party service providers, they may process or store information outside British Columbia or Canada. In that case, your information may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is processed or stored.
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, understand website traffic, improve user experience, and support basic analytics.

YMC may take photos or short videos during training for coaching, debriefing, safety, or course record purposes.
Identifiable photos or videos used for marketing, website, social media, advertising, or promotional purposes will only be used with appropriate consent or a clear opt-out opportunity.
If you prefer not to appear in promotional photos or videos, please let us know before the course.
We may send you relevant course updates, follow-up information, or sailing-related communications where permitted by law.
You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link if provided, or by contacting us directly at patrik@yachtmasterclass.ca.
We may still send necessary service messages related to your booking, course, safety, payments, certification, or legal obligations.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, loss, or disposal.
These steps may include limiting access to those who need the information, using password-protected accounts, using reputable service providers, keeping course records in controlled systems, and reviewing our practices as needed.
No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we aim to use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required for legal, business, insurance, tax, certification, safety, dispute-resolution, or regulatory reasons.
Training, waiver, incident, certification, and payment records may be kept for longer periods because they may be needed for insurance, legal, regulatory, or certification purposes.
When information is no longer reasonably required, we will delete it, destroy it, anonymize it, or remove identifying details where practical.
