At Yacht Master Class, we believe good seamanship includes care for the waters we sail in.
Our courses take place in Howe Sound, the Salish Sea, and the wider BC coast — places that are beautiful and worth protecting. As a sailing school, we aim to reduce our impact where we can and to teach responsible boating habits as part of everyday life onboard.
Yacht Master Class has taken The Green Blue Boating Pledge. The Green Blue was created by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Marine to help the boating community make more sustainable choices and protect coastal and inland waters.
In practice, this means we aim to:
reduce unnecessary waste onboard;
avoid single-use plastics where practical;
manage fuel, oil, grey water, and rubbish responsibly;
respect wildlife and sensitive habitats;
anchor and moor with care;
leave the boat, shoreline, and anchorages better than we found them;
encourage students to treat environmental awareness as part of seamanship.
We are not perfect, and sustainability is an ongoing practice. But we are committed to improving how we operate and to helping students build habits that respect the land, sea, wildlife, and communities connected to this coast.
